The goal
Each project has one goal: one number Marsell can count, a target and a day to reach it by. It sits under the plan’s name and on The road on Home. It shows what is counted, the target, the day and what is counted now against it, such as “120 of 300”, with a bar. Above it, a word says whose it is: Marsell suggests, Your goal, or No goal yet. Press the goal to open it:- Now: what is counted so far.
- How it stands: On track, Behind the pace it needs, Too early to tell, Reached or Not counted yet.
- Needed: about how much a week it takes from here.
- Lately: its pace a week over the last four weeks.
- what counts it and when it last did, why Marsell suggested it, and the plan’s north star.
Marsell’s suggestion
Until you set a goal, the weekly plan suggests one that fits the business. It picks from what people do when your marketing works, and prefers a number something already counts for you. For example:
The day is 90 days on, or the end date of something that runs until a date, such as an event. The suggestion is written with the weekly plan, so it costs nothing extra.
It comes to you as a card in What needs you, “Marsell suggests:” and the goal, with why one press away. Use this makes it yours. Change it lets you say your own.
Set your own goal
1
Open the goal
Press the goal on Plan, or on The road on Home. With no goal yet, the box to type in is already open.
2
Say it in your own words
Press Change it and type your goal under Your goal, in your own words, for example “500 stars by Christmas” or “20 bookings a week by June”.
3
Set it
Press Set it. Marsell reads your words and says in one line what it understood.
The week ahead
Today and the six days after it, a column a day, with today marked. Above the days:- What this week should answer: the question the week tests.
- a bar counting the week’s pieces: done, in progress, waiting for you, still to come, and cancelled or failed.
Press a card to open it. A piece waiting for you opens at its decision, so you can approve, change or skip it right there (Review it). A made piece opens whole: the page, the pictures, the post or the film. A carousel opens as its slides. Anything else shows its brief and why it’s on the plan (Details). A piece that failed and can be started again shows Start it again; it uses tokens again.
If nothing is planned for the next seven days, the section says This plan’s week is over or Nothing planned yet, with Plan the week. A new plan takes a minute or two and uses tokens.
The month
A calendar from today to about a week after your Marsell plan renews, so the next month’s first week is already sketched. When Marsell doesn’t know the renewal day, the calendar covers five weeks.- The week ahead is Planned in full.
- Later days hold pieces that are Sketched, brief to come: each gets its full brief the week before its day. Press one for About, Lever, Aim and Why then.
- Waits for you marks a piece that needs your yes.
- A flag marks a milestone. Press it for what it takes and when it counts as reached.
What changed and why
Every new version of the plan says what it changed: each line marked as new, stopped or changed, with a count of each. The week now shows the week’s pieces as pictures, and each opens like its card. Marsell’s reasoning gives the first paragraph of why; Read all opens the rest.The thinking behind the week
- The brief: the plan’s reasoning, whole.
- 90-day targets: each number with why. Press one to see how it is judged.
- Milestones: dated steps, the next one marked Next, each with what moves it on (“Reached when”).
- Channels: each In play or Later, with its approach, the test and how it decides. A channel for later says what it needs first.
- Who this is for, as a hypothesis: the buyers the plan aims at, until the numbers confirm them.
What each type of project gets
The week depends on your project’s type: what people do when its marketing works. You see and change the type on Brand, under What Marsell knows. Each week holds at least this:
An event’s weeks are built around its date: before the day, the day itself and after it. A fundraiser’s count down to its date.
Two of the rules on Brand change the week whatever the type. A law practice gets cited articles and posts, and Marsell never approaches people for it. A team inside a big company gets concepts to take to approval, never posted.
Each type also has things its week never does. A free tool’s launch kit leaves writing and posting on Hacker News to you, and never puts a download behind an email. A fundraiser never invents the people it helped or how much is raised. An event never invents speakers or prices.
Tasks for you
Some pieces are yours: quick tasks only you can do, such as connecting an account. Each one is a card in What needs you with Done and Skip, why it’s there on its face and the full steps one press away. You don’t have to close a task that no longer applies. Every 15 minutes Marsell checks the open ones, and closes a task when:- its piece of the plan is finished, cancelled or no longer on the plan;
- it asked you to connect an account, and that account is now connected;
- its week is over and the current plan no longer asks for it (a task to connect an account that still isn’t connected stays);
- Marsell reads it beside what it knows now and finds it’s already done, or what it was about is gone. If Marsell isn’t sure, the task stays.
Experiments, your site check and ideas
- Experiments: the tests the plan runs, each with its versions, where it runs, what decides it and where it stands, and What the ledger learned from tests already decided. See Tests.
- Your site check: your site’s score out of 100 and how many fixes are open, or Nothing to fix. See the fixes or See the check opens What’s in the way on Sell.
- Ideas: ideas from what similar businesses do and what your numbers show. Each says who would do it (Marsell does it, You do it or A developer) and about how long it takes, with Do it, Not for us and Later. Ideas you answered are listed under Answered.
Change the plan
Tell Marsell in the chat what to change, and it changes the plan. To start the week over, press Plan the week again on Home. Marsell also writes a new plan every week by itself. See How Marsell works.How Marsell works
