> ## Agent Instructions
> Marsell's MCP server is at https://getmarsell.com/mcp: agents connect with a key the owner makes in the app (a project's Agents page, Your own AI). See /developers/mcp for its tools. There is no public REST API yet; don't suggest REST endpoints.
> The search MCP server at https://docs.getmarsell.com/mcp only searches these docs. It can't read or change anyone's Marsell projects.
> Each business is a project with nine places: Home, Plan, Create, Market, Sell, People, Analytics, Agents and Brand. 'Marsell plan' means the subscription (Solo, Core, Growth, Network); 'the plan' or 'the week' means the work Marsell has planned.
> Tokens are Marsell's unit for AI and media work, granted monthly by the Marsell plan. They are not model tokens.

# Plan

> Plan shows what Marsell is working towards and how: your goal, the week ahead day by day, the month, the thinking behind it, the tests, your site check and ideas.

**Plan** opens with the plan's name and your goal, over a scene Marsell paints once for your project. The line above the name says how far the plan reaches, its version and when it was written. In the corner, **This week** counts how many of the week's pieces are made and names the next one; press it to go to the week.

Top to bottom:

1. **What changed and why**, for this version of the plan.
2. **The week ahead**: today and the next six days, piece by piece.
3. **The month**: the calendar after this week, with the milestones.
4. **The thinking behind the week**: the brief, the 90-day targets, the milestones, the channels and who it's for.
5. **Experiments**, **Your site check** and **Ideas**.

The links under the heading jump to each section, with a count beside **The week ahead**, **The month** and **Ideas**. **How the plan works** explains it in a few lines.

The scene is a picture, so it uses tokens. While it's being made, Plan says **Marsell is painting your scene…**; with no tokens left, **Add tokens and Marsell paints your scene**. If it didn't come out, **Paint the scene again** tries once more. The corner button opens it full size.

If there is no plan yet, Plan says so and **Go to Home** takes you to **Plan the week**. If the plan can't be loaded, press **Try again**. A section Marsell hasn't run yet is named at the foot of the page under "Not running yet", and fills in once it has.

## The goal

Each project has one goal: one number Marsell can count, a target and a day to reach it by. It sits under the plan's name and on **The road** on Home. It shows what is counted, the target, the day and what is counted now against it, such as "120 of 300", with a bar. Above it, a word says whose it is: **Marsell suggests**, **Your goal**, or **No goal yet**.

Press the goal to open it:

* **Now**: what is counted so far.
* **How it stands**: **On track**, **Behind the pace it needs**, **Too early to tell**, **Reached** or **Not counted yet**.
* **Needed**: about how much a week it takes from here.
* **Lately**: its pace a week over the last four weeks.
* what counts it and when it last did, why Marsell suggested it, and the plan's north star.

A goal you took from Marsell says "Marsell suggested it, you took it". Your own goal is a rule every plan follows.

### Marsell's suggestion

Until you set a goal, the weekly plan suggests one that fits the business. It picks from what people do when your marketing works, and prefers a number something already counts for you. For example:

| Your project | Marsell's goal is counted in |
| - | - |
| A shop | Sales or orders |
| Paid software | Sign-ups, new accounts or paying subscribers |
| A free or open tool | GitHub stars or downloads |
| A local place or service | Bookings or enquiries |
| A fundraiser or charity | Money raised |
| A channel or show | Subscribers or views |

The day is 90 days on, or the end date of something that runs until a date, such as an event. The suggestion is written with the weekly plan, so it costs nothing extra.

It comes to you as a card in [What needs you](/home/approvals), "Marsell suggests:" and the goal, with why one press away. **Use this** makes it yours. **Change it** lets you say your own.

### Set your own goal

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the goal">
    Press the goal on Plan, or on **The road** on Home. With no goal yet, the box to type in is already open.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Say it in your own words">
    Press **Change it** and type your goal under **Your goal, in your own words**, for example "500 stars by Christmas" or "20 bookings a week by June".
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set it">
    Press **Set it**. Marsell reads your words and says in one line what it understood.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You can also tell Marsell your goal in the [chat](/chat), or say there that you'll use its suggestion. Your own AI can do the same through the [MCP server](/developers/mcp).

A goal can be a total by a day ("500 stars by Christmas") or a pace ("20 tours a week", "\$5k a month"). If you name no day, it's 90 days from now. If your words name no amount, or could mean two different goals, nothing is set: Marsell says what it understood and asks again with a number and a day. Reading your words is AI work, paid from your tokens.

If nothing Marsell reads counts what you named, the goal still stands in your words and shows **You give the number**. Marsell asks you for the number when it reviews the plan, and never makes one up.

## The week ahead

Today and the six days after it, a column a day, with today marked. Above the days:

* **What this week should answer**: the question the week tests.
* a bar counting the week's pieces: done, in progress, waiting for you, still to come, and cancelled or failed.

Each piece is a card: its picture once it's made (until then its kind in a dashed frame), where it stands, the channel it goes to and a few words.

| Label | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Planned** | On the plan, not started yet |
| **Queued** | Marsell has taken it and starts soon |
| **In progress** | Being made now |
| **Waits for you** or **Waits for your pick** | Made, and waiting for your yes or your choice |
| **Published** or **Done** | Out, or finished |
| **Not picked up**, **Failed** or **Cancelled** | Stopped, with the reason on the card |

Press a card to open it. A piece waiting for you opens at its decision, so you can approve, change or skip it right there (**Review it**). A made piece opens whole: the page, the pictures, the post or the film. A carousel opens as its slides. Anything else shows its brief and why it's on the plan (**Details**). A piece that failed and can be started again shows **Start it again**; it uses tokens again.

If nothing is planned for the next seven days, the section says **This plan's week is over** or **Nothing planned yet**, with **Plan the week**. A new plan takes a minute or two and uses tokens.

## The month

A calendar from today to about a week after your Marsell plan renews, so the next month's first week is already sketched. When Marsell doesn't know the renewal day, the calendar covers five weeks.

* The week ahead is **Planned in full**.
* Later days hold pieces that are **Sketched, brief to come**: each gets its full brief the week before its day. Press one for **About**, **Lever**, **Aim** and **Why then**.
* **Waits for you** marks a piece that needs your yes.
* A flag marks a milestone. Press it for what it takes and when it counts as reached.

The heading says how many more pieces are planned after this week, and to which day.

## What changed and why

Every new version of the plan says what it changed: each line marked as new, stopped or changed, with a count of each. **The week now** shows the week's pieces as pictures, and each opens like its card. **Marsell's reasoning** gives the first paragraph of why; **Read all** opens the rest.

## The thinking behind the week

* **The brief**: the plan's reasoning, whole.
* **90-day targets**: each number with why. Press one to see how it is judged.
* **Milestones**: dated steps, the next one marked **Next**, each with what moves it on ("Reached when").
* **Channels**: each **In play** or **Later**, with its approach, the test and how it decides. A channel for later says what it needs first.
* **Who this is for, as a hypothesis**: the buyers the plan aims at, until the numbers confirm them.

## What each type of project gets

The week depends on your project's type: what people do when its marketing works. You see and change the type on [Brand](/brand), under **What Marsell knows**. Each week holds at least this:

| Type | The first week | The weeks after |
| - | - | - |
| **Shop** | Product pictures, a short film, a carousel and three posts | Pictures, a carousel and three posts |
| **Paid software** | Two comparison pages against named alternatives, an article and three founder posts | One comparison, one article and three posts |
| **Free or open tool** | The repository's front page made ready, a launch kit for you to post (Show HN notes and title choices, the subreddits that fit with their rules, a Product Hunt draft), three posts as the maker, replies where people ask for a tool like it, and one honest comparison | Three posts, the replies, and one listing where people find tools like it, such as a package manager or an awesome list |
| **Local place or service** | An audit of rivals on Maps, four Google Business Profile posts, a service-area section and a review-request script | Three profile posts |
| **Client work** | As the business: a list of ten prospects and two concepts. As a person: five posts in your voice and an offer section | Fresh prospects and a concept, or three posts |
| **Channel or show** | A channel audit, a new film about a story from somewhere the channel has filmed (linking back to your own video), a post and a list of collaborators | New films each week |
| **Release** | An announcement with the wishlist or pre-order link, a teaser film, three posts and a list of press and creators | Three posts |
| **Course** | An enrol or waitlist section, a free lesson as an article and three posts in the teacher's voice | Three posts |
| **Event** | A ticket section, three posts, line-up cards as a carousel and a list of partners who would share it | Three posts and a share kit for people already coming |
| **Community** | A section on what members get and three posts in the host's voice | Three posts |
| **Fundraiser or charity** | The appeal, a share kit for your own people, three posts and a pitch to the local press | Three posts and a fresh share kit |
| **Campaign** | The ask with its date, a share kit, three posts and a press pitch, with ads off | Three posts and a fresh share kit |

An event's weeks are built around its date: before the day, the day itself and after it. A fundraiser's count down to its date.

Two of the rules on Brand change the week whatever the type. A law practice gets cited articles and posts, and Marsell never approaches people for it. A team inside a big company gets concepts to take to approval, never posted.

Each type also has things its week never does. A free tool's launch kit leaves writing and posting on Hacker News to you, and never puts a download behind an email. A fundraiser never invents the people it helped or how much is raised. An event never invents speakers or prices.

## Tasks for you

Some pieces are yours: quick tasks only you can do, such as connecting an account. Each one is a card in [What needs you](/home/approvals) with **Done** and **Skip**, why it's there on its face and the full steps one press away.

You don't have to close a task that no longer applies. Every 15 minutes Marsell checks the open ones, and closes a task when:

* its piece of the plan is finished, cancelled or no longer on the plan;
* it asked you to connect an account, and that account is now connected;
* its week is over and the current plan no longer asks for it (a task to connect an account that still isn't connected stays);
* Marsell reads it beside what it knows now and finds it's already done, or what it was about is gone. If Marsell isn't sure, the task stays.

Each one it closes shows under **Everything Marsell did** on Home as "Closed a task:" with the reason, such as "Instagram is connected now, so this is done."

## Experiments, your site check and ideas

* **Experiments**: the tests the plan runs, each with its versions, where it runs, what decides it and where it stands, and **What the ledger learned** from tests already decided. See [Tests](/home/results#tests).
* **Your site check**: your site's score out of 100 and how many fixes are open, or **Nothing to fix**. **See the fixes** or **See the check** opens **What's in the way** on [Sell](/sell).
* **Ideas**: ideas from what similar businesses do and what your numbers show. Each says who would do it (**Marsell does it**, **You do it** or **A developer**) and about how long it takes, with **Do it**, **Not for us** and **Later**. Ideas you answered are listed under **Answered**.

## Change the plan

Tell Marsell in the [chat](/chat) what to change, and it changes the plan. To start the week over, press **Plan the week again** on Home. Marsell also writes a new plan every week by itself. See [How Marsell works](/how-it-works).
